AAAWF – NSW

The Asian Australian Alliance Women’s Forum in New South Wales (AAAWF NSW), was the first branch created as part of the Asian Australian Alliance Women’s Forum (AAAWF) in 2014. Within the period of 2014 – 2015, the Asian Australian Alliance Women’s Forum in New South Wales (AAAWF NSW), held two major events. The first one in 2014 was the actual launch held at the University of Technology, Sydney, with the primary focus looking at domestic violence services for the Asian Australian community. This is still an outstanding issue and one which the Asian Australian Alliance Women’s Forum as a whole is taking on as a long term campaign. It is about looking at getting culturally competent services in a one stop shop. More will be revealed on this as the project continues.

In addition, within the 2014 – 2015 period, the Asian Australian Alliance Women’s Forum in New South Wales (AAAWF NSW), the other major focus is looking at Asian Australian leadership for women and how can Asian Australian women be more visible within leadership and decision making roles. A forum was held on this towards the end of 2014, looking at this issue via a panel discussion. The forum was titled: What is the Political Future for Asian Australian Women and focused on Asian Australian women in politics and in other leadership positions.

In 2015, Australian Senator Lisa Singh accepted the position as honorary patron for the Asian Australian Alliance Women’s Forum (AAAWF). The 2016 – 2017 period will be a busy one with many of the project’s the forum has focused on will bear some fruit.
